The deadline for linking Aadhaar with PAN is currently set for March 31, 2023, with a fee of Rs 1000 for the linking process. However, rumors circulating that the deadline may be extended by another year, and extra fees may be levied by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
As of March 28, there has been no official announcement regarding any extension of the deadline. It is important to note that PAN-Aadhaar linking is not required for certain categories of individuals, such as NRIs, non-Indian citizens, senior citizens above the age of 80 years, and residents of Assam, Meghalaya, and Jammu and Kashmir.
The Income Tax department has tweeted that all PAN holders who are not exempt are required to link their PAN with Aadhaar before March 31, 2023, and any unlinked PANs will become inoperative from April 1, 2023, in accordance with the IT Act, 1961.
